NINJA SEX PARTY DEBUTS “DANNY DON’T YOU KNOW” VIDEO STARRING FINN WOLFHARD (STRANGER THINGS)

Comedy rock duo Ninja Sex Party will release its sixth album, Cool Patrol, onAugust 17. The announcement came today via The A.V. Club, who premiered the video for “Danny Don’t You Know”, starring longtime NSP fan Finn Wolfhard of Stranger Things.

The A.V. Club says the video, “practically begs for viral fame.” It’s a hilarious but heartfelt pep talk that singer Danny Sexbang delivers to his awkward, nerdy younger self promising him that things will get better as he gets older and learns to unleash his inner “spandex butterfly.”

Cool Patrol is 15 tracks of fuck-yeah, produced by Jim Roach of Santa Monica Recordings and featuring guest musicians TWRP, Kenny Harris (Panic! at the Disco), Bob Reynolds (Snarky Puppy) and Rashawn Ross (Dave Matthews Band).

With songs like “Eating Food in the Shower”, “Heart Boner” and “Orgy for One” Cool Patrol is the album Ninja Sex Party has always wanted to make, a nonstop romp through ‘80s-inspired riffs, sing-along choruses, offbeat humor, inappropriate language and the occasional bitchin’ guitar solo. It’s way more fun than an orgy for one, though admittedly not quite as fun as eating in the shower — but then again, what is?

In real life, Danny Sexbang and Ninja Brian are Dan Avidan and Brian Wecht, both known for the wildly popular (4.5 million subscribers) YouTube gaming channel Game Grumps, which Dan co-hosts with Arin Hanson. They formed Ninja Sex Party in New York in 2009, where they met on the improv circuit. Brian was playing for musical improv groups, turning audience suggestions into spontaneous songs, and Danny was a struggling musician reinventing himself as a struggling comedian — until he realized that combining his two passions would be less of a struggle.

Over the course of three original albums and two collections of cover songs, Ninja Sex Party’s fan base has grown exponentially, fueled by their involvement with Game Grumps and hit viral videos like “Dragon Slayer” (7.1 million views, and probably the favorite song of that guy you saw dancing in a dragon onesie at that party that one time) and “No Reason Boner” (5 million views, and it’s something Danny’s working on). Along the way, they released a pair of cover albums, Under the Covers Vols. I and II, aided by their new friends, costumed Canadian rockers TWRP, who also worked on Cool Patrol and now act as Ninja Sex Party’s live backing band.

Finally, Ninja Sex Party have a sound as epic as Danny Sexbang’s fur-lined cape and more intense than Ninja Brian’s ninja pants. From the raging metal guitars of “Release the Kraken” to the bouncy new wave of the dance-along title track to the delicate madrigals and bone-fracturing sound effects of “Courtship of the Mermaid”, it’s the most polished and sonically diverse Ninja Sex Party album to date.

NSP are finishing up a tour tonight in San Diego and will be back on the road later this summer through the fall, bringing their insane retro-party to theatres across the country. At a Ninja Sex Party show, you’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll do battle with mythical creatures and you’ll sing along to “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”. A full list of tour dates can be found below with more to be added.

A running theme of celebrating the nerds, geeks and outsiders runs through all of Ninja Sex Party’s music and explains the devotion of their massive fan base — 1 million YouTube subscribers and 580,000 Twitter followers strong. “We did not anticipate how emotionally invested the fans would become,” Danny says. “It gives us the sense of, ‘Oh, good, we’re doing something that matters.’ It’s not just stupid. It’s stupid and meaningful.’”
