Review of The Watchmen season one episode three

Review of HBO’s The Watchmen

She was killed by space junk

Do you remember Silk Spectre? If not then you are missing a major part of Watchmen history, as there were multiple generations for their character.

Well, Laurie (2nd generation) has gone a bit rogue, and I say rogue because now she’s part of a task force that takes down masked vigilantes. Bit ironic since both her and her mother used to be one. Her name is now Laurie Blake (played by Jean Smart), and she was there when the incident with Rorschach, Nite Owl, Ozymandias had such dire consequences, which may be what turned her away from that life.

Her husband was the 2nd generation Nite Owl, and she even had a relationship with the famed Dr Manhattan.

So what happened to make her flip her cause and her purpose of fighting? What was so awful that it would make her switch from one extreme to another? I’m hoping this question will also be answered with why the world thinks Ozymandias is dead, but when is apparently on house arrest, making clones and being kept in line by someone called “The Gamekeeper”.

Apparently there are “pods” everywhere in the US, for anyone who wants to reach out to Dr Manhattan, I can’t tell if these are just recorded messages for him to listen to later, or if he listens to each one. But Laurie, apparently will use one of these pods to contact him….and in the most recent one she makes a joke, about the people who used to be Watchmen, and how they would be viewed by God at the pearly gates for judgement.

It’s a dark view, which is not surprising. They’re having her head up the task force regarding the slaying of the Chief of police, and you can tell she feels there is something more at stake here.

She has files on all of the masked vigilantes working with the police, she has files on all the masked police, she’s another level of being one of the few that knows all of them.

The 7th Kavalry attempts a bomb suicide  at the chiefs funeral, and only Sister Knight stops it from happening, but had to sacrifice the deceased chief’s body to do so, which now means there cannot be a exumation of his body for analysis, since there is multiple suspected issues at hand.

Laurie knows there was a wheelchair at the tree, but we can’t tell who she suspects, and she knows about the secret compartment in the Chief’s closet. She is amazing on the uptake and how quick she adapts to it, but I guess that’s what happens when you have fought on both sides.

I LOVE her reason for explaining why she looked for it, she found one when her father, the Comedian died, and it’s such a good egg for past info. He’s such a dark and favorite character of mine.

Well our new Silk Spectre, aka Laurie, she doesn’t really know which side she fights on. She also doesn’t believe in any higher power keeping their higher authority.

We don’t know why she keeps reaching out to Dr Manhattan, he made his obvious contempt for the world known, and I think she fears that she is reaching that point.

She really is her father’s daughter.

This show has not disappointed, I am so pleased by it, and it feels that each hour I watch is not enough. This is probably the best spin off from a movie and graphic novel that I have seen in a LONG time.
