The Fangirl Zone

The Boys episode eight

Review of The Boys on Amazon Prime

You know, this is the first episode that I didn’t take notes to adjust later on, well that was the plan but it’s like the first episode where they start off with throwing a ton at you, just so they can slowly explain it?

This last episode easily looks like it’s going to do the same, it’s going to throw nine tons of WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT, because you know you have to come back for the next season.

And once again…I just want to put this here. In the comics, Civil War, Captain America didn’t want the government to have a list of registered heroes, or control over them as a group, because he felt if they did, they could choose who the villains were. This literally spits this lesson every possible episode of this tv show. Unfortunately, if we cannot trust those in power to not be swayed, then it is a reality we must face.

Shocker that they have Homelander going in as the weapon of the US, to choose and do as he pleases. And you watch him laugh as he does it, but it’s easy to tell that he’s going to be the loose cannon and it will totally be his demise, possibly in a public forum, writing is making that kind of obvious.

The downside is that the deal that Butcher and his boys are now open targets, their families are the only thing being protected by the feds. Vought has everyone over a barrel, but Butcher refuses to give up. Where does the Female come into play, that’s my final card. If you have a weapon created to round up the need for superheroes, one that can’t die, what do you do with it.

But now that the truth is out there regarding the supes, poor Starlight is not ok with it. I can imagine the pain she’s going through, the family turmoil is well written, and you know they’re kinda making a lot of things a little too obvious that some family members are going to be making an appearance soon.

Ok, so maybe they’re making things a little too obvious for how the episode will end and I’m only at the 15 minute marker, Amazon kind of did this with the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel as well, at the end of the season you kinda knew most of the stuff that was going to be a result.

We finally meet Mallory, the agent that started it all, and she literally lost all of her family for her (previous episode Mother’s Milk tells the story about how Vought burned all of Mallory’s grandchildren for trying to investigate them). And now we also know why Lamplighter was “retired” which is what brought Starlight to the Seven, and she knows about Homelander and Stillwell’s relationship.

Damn, we knew they would come for them, the fed director told them to run, but they thought they had more time, they actually had no time at all. They even took down the Female, honestly, she was a Vought target after she took down A-train, he has a broken leg and is treated….like others similar. Let’s not sugar coat it, he’s treated by racial profiling, by a security guard, and it’s going to go public. God bless tv shows that flag stuff like this in everyday life, and how when they’re caught, they try to avert their eyes after being caught.

Well, that’s it kids, we are down to Butcher and Hughie, that’s all we have left. Butcher wants to continue with the tip that Mallory provided, but Hughie wants to finally stand on his ground for the right thing. The price of vengeance?

I have said it like what, 5 times now? Karl Urban is a treasure upon this earth, so is Tom Hanks and Zendaya. Yes, I have a few others, but come on.

But there is a wild card I didn’t consider, Starlight, technically more of the Annie side. The human side who actually wanted the right thing from the beginning. The one who actually believed in the religious events, believed she was special and that she was chosen, who believed and hoped she could make the world a better place. The one who says she doesn’t care, but you know underneath it all she does. Come on, they gave her the name Annie, she’s meant to be predictable. Ok, so we are half way through the episode, so who do we think will die? We know at least one supe will, because Amazon in the description of the episode mentioned super heroes exploding, my money is on A-Train or Homelander.

We finally meet Mr Edgar, and guess what, if you don’t recognize him from Once Upon a Time, Breaking Bad and many other shows, you’re a bad nerd. Oddly enough in the comics, he’s supposed to have Stillwell as a last name….twist for later?

Starlight finds out what we have known all along, that Maeve was her, but just let the world take everything from her. And of course Maeve gives her hope in what she fought for, saying that something should. It will break my cause if Maeve views herself as a lost cause, if that’s the end of her feelings then she will be the one who dies in the episode, she will take that final hit and view it as her legacy of finally doing something right.

We thought Stillwell was the person who created the supe terrorists, but it turns out it was Homelander, so much for the American way right? He used A-Train as his runner, which isn’t really a shocker since A-train has been hooked on it for how long. And we realize he has this odd perverted sexual mother relationship with her, he’s not looking so much for sexual release, he’s like one of those guys that like to dress up as a baby to get their kicks off.

But she slips, she said his child died in miscarriage, the doctor told him the child died after clawing his way out of his mother. So, where is the child of Homelander and Butcher’s dead/missing wife? Did it actually die at all?

The Boys (sans Butcher) break free, because he’s a bit busy at the moment, and honestly if Butcher dies, then I’m done watching this show. Why doesn’t the Female aka Kumiko have any actual powers other then speed and healing? You would think she would have all of them with how much Compound V is in her.

Watching Hugie shoot a good is like watching me play Call of Duty, I’m like WHERE AM I SHOOTING, WHY AM I SPINNING SO HARD, but I don’t have the backup they do. Cause guess who finally showed? The girl who wanted to believe she was doing something, and then you have the supe who is too hopped up on drugs to admit where he’s at, and the Compound V finally shows the after effects when you push it too hard.

Butcher finally has Stillwell and Homelander together, assuming the worst, but it turns out Homelander knows the truth now. Of course, he whispers it to her, so the rest of us don’t know…and then he finally gets her to say the truth.

Oh god, and the truth, it finally comes home, literally and figuratively, and it hurts.
