The Fangirl Zone

The Boys episode five

Review of The Boys on Amazon Prime

This whole show is showing things at the random freaking moment. It feels pieced together like a drug addicts (addled) memory, but in a way that you just can’t look away from.

Ah, poor Popclaw, had to turn into something that depends on something and someone else.

And we finally have a moment where we relate to A-Train, the poorly scripted idiot, who loses everything, just like the rest, all by the advice of Homelander (this guy is just EVERYWHERE).

Who is surprised though, the brightest burning light will show the darkest shadow. How about that cliche for you!! I can do this all day (Captain America2011)

Frenchie has a weird soft spot for the Female, which is amazing considering how much he has literally been burned. Also total psychopath as he just sits when something attacks, it takes a serial killer to respond like that. Once again, shocker (snorts with sarcasm). It’s like looking in a weird different race mirror.

We finally make our way to the Expo, and I don’t know why I’m excited! The Boys, the crooked Supes, and their lovely company Vought are all there. Trying to find a way through to the lead, apparently through the gun packing crowd, with the security cameras, and trying to make the best of a situation. Starlight has explained that her mother and her were always strong in the religious convention life, blah blah, we get it. I think you’ll focus more on when you realize that her mother is played by Ann Cusack, and her voice for 1 or 2 lines in this episode sounded so much like Joan Cusack, that I almost thought I was seeing the wrong face on my screen.

Queen Maeve, still my favorite, shows her true colors with her tolerating for Homelander (my god, when a villain is possibly hated in real life, you know he played an amazing role).

Oh, the fun, delicate topic of religion in group conversation, tramples all over the open minded options of other beliefs and other religions, it’s always good fun to see. Of course, Butcher takes the situation at hand to come out swinging with all his anger at the world that can’t be possible if there is a better higher power playing at hand.

And oh poor Hugie, haunted by his past, literally, seeing it around any corner where he considers taking a different path. Staring him in the face, lingering.

And of course it isn’t a proper religious event without Homelander making an appearance, you know, pushing all boundaries to the extreme.

Well the video we saw with Butcher previously, turns out is an open case. Nobody has found any body, she just disappeared from everyone’s life, including her own family to even bury an open grave. I need more of this story! I need to know exactly what we saw in that video before she is gone to the point of assumed death.

Ok back to the expo, where Hugie is about to make some even more awkward awful haunting choices, as Homelander staring him in the face, and guess an ordained minister, no really, guess. I mean we have a couple options at this point, let’s be honest, cause everyone has shown their multiple faces and skills. Homelander almost takes something a little too far again, and we find out that Stillwell is a single mother and that Hugie can improvise when electronics fail, and as always keeps showing that he has backbone at the oddest moments.

Butcher has disappeared to do the normal thing, destroy his wife’s headstone, since it’s an empty grave anyway, and we are finding out why he is so obsessed. He hopes his wife is still alive, and that everyone will just realize his hope was true. Mother’s Milk called  it earlier, and poor Frenchie has been caught on camera, question is who’s camera? I’m not going to leak that.

Homelander basically positions himself as a religious image, preaching about righteousness, and his love for Maeve, may have been a bit of misdirection. And poor Maeve is just cracking under the pressure of living this life. Cherie (Jordana Lajoie), which we thought was just another poor displaced love is actually on top of the game! She knows how to prewarn him when the Supes show up at one of the addresses, and even makes it out, at least from what we know. Nobody really has a known ending in his, well I mean, the ones that die on screen we know, but it’s comics, nobody really stays dead, right? Tell that to Translucent.

I’m actually watching Frenchie now, wondering if he just made the worst choice of his life, or the best. I feel like it’s one of those choose your own path books, where if you choose one option, you go to this page, and the other option takes you to another and you just don’t know yet.

We FINALLY see The Deep, wondering if his plans were going to be covered up by Vought, but since they weren’t approved by them in advance, he’s alone, in headquarters, eating Hostess products. And honestly, it’s kind of worth seeing beautiful Chace Crawford eat baked goods. And you see him panic again for a moment, and Starlight gets honest, goes off script (like Homelander did, but in a good way) and Hugie of course is AMAZED because it’s exactly what he is doing.

OH MY G…EEZ (haha, couldn’t not do it)… when they go to the Compound V address and what they find is astounding and awful. The boys thought that Vought were shooting the Female with Compound V at the underground address to make her like a super freak supe, but what if she’s the source? She was found in what looks like junkie hole where drugs are cooked, and they assume she’s the recipient of it, but what if she’s the source. What if the drugs they shot her up with was just to subdue her, I’m totally calling this now, and I might be totally wrong and I’m ok with that.

And they find an area where the Compound V is being, let’s say, distributed, to an individual, and it makes everything be questioned, not like anything is giving a solid answer anyway. It’s all a giant guessing game. And all those times we thought Homelander was staring at his own face, turns out he’s just using his xray vision to watch Stillwell, and their relationship is unusual.

I’m sorry, I love that I haven’t heard Black Noir talk yet, it really reminds me of Spiderman Noir, but you know with more noir.

I love this show. If it ends badly, I’m going to be so pissed, because even with random patch moments, especially Butcher’s video and rage, like HOW DOES IT LEAD TO THIS. I need to know, like a Compound V junkie, I need it.

This is how an adult defines need vs want.
